What Does the Welfare Council Do?
The Welfare Council works to ensure that you, as a student, have access to strong and reliable welfare services throughout your studies. We decide how the semester fee is allocated, and we provide input on how the Student Welfare Organization in Gjøvik, Ålesund and Trondheim (Sit) should prioritize its services.
We Work for Your Rights
We advocate for student interests both locally and nationally, focusing on issues that affect your daily life — including finances, housing, mental health, and student rights. Our goal is to make sure you have the support you need to thrive during your studies.
Who Serves on the Welfare Council?
Representatives to the Welfare Council are elected each spring and serve for one year starting July 1. They meet once a month to discuss and vote on matters that impact student welfare. Throughout their term, representatives also participate in seminars, courses, and workshops organized by the Welfare Council’s Executive Committee and our partners.
You Can Get Involved
Everyone who pays the semester fee can run for election, speak at Welfare Council meetings, and submit proposals. The Welfare Council is your arena — and you’re welcome to take part.

Matriculation ball, board game nights, and mountain trips. The student volunteerism in our study cities does all this and more to create offerings that contribute to a better student life. In order to have the opportunity to provide students with these offerings, student associations depend on support. The Welfare Council and Sit are proud to be that support through our schemes. To process applications for these support schemes, we have the Volunteering Financial Committee, consisting of 8 managers elected by the Welfare Council.
The managers in the Volunteering Financial Committee are tasked with allocating several million kroner to all student organizations in our study cities, and as a manager, it is your responsibility to ensure that the money goes to those who need it to carry out their projects.
You will work with a wide range of applications from the entire student volunteer community in all three of our cities. Experience in financial understanding and case processing will be gained during your year in FØK. You will make new acquaintances and perhaps new friends through the work of managing the schemes. Furthermore, you can expect refreshments at meetings where applications are processed, and the executive board will organize an internal seminar for the managers during the main processing period for the Sit sponsorship program.
The committee constitutes itself. If you become the leader or deputy leader, these roles are compensated due to extra administrative burden. The leader and deputy leader have tasks such as coordinating FØK and responding to emails from the volunteer community and others seeking information.
FØK will consist of 8 managers, usually electing 4 in the fall and 4 in the spring. Do you want to be part of facilitating volunteerism and enabling a better student life?
