Politics

Velferdstinget arbeider politisk opp mot samskipnaden (Sit), kommune og stat for å sikre at din hverdag som student blir best mulig.

Health

The welfare offering should address the needs of students in their academic lives, ensuring the principle of full-time students is upheld. However, the reality is that the Student Health and Well-being Survey reports a higher proportion of students facing mental and physical health issues. For instance, 1 in 5 students states they have sought help for mental health issues in the past year. 4% mention seeking help but not receiving it. The shortage of general practitioners also affects students who cannot secure a local GP and are referred to emergency care or a GP in their hometown while waiting on a waiting list.

Velferdstinget believes

Students should have a comprehensive welfare offering that ensures a sense of security in their academic life.

We work towards

  • increased funding for student health services, such as Sit Mental Health Services

  • that there should be a well-established low-threshold counseling service with broad coverage for the student population

  • that all students should have the opportunity to have a general practitioner (GP) in their university town

  • that testing for sexually transmitted infections should be easily accessible, both through Sit's health center and through self-testing

Student Health

Educational institutions, host municipalities, county municipalities, and the state should take responsibility for student welfare. Therefore, it is important to work towards defining the concept of student health and ensure efforts to improve it both locally and nationally. Good student health means that students, given their unique life situation, have/develop/strengthen their ability and capacity to cope with the difficulties, challenges, and demands of everyday life and student life. Students should have access to discounted dental health services until dental care is included in the national health insurance. Health should be viewed holistically, and therefore, health services must address both physical and mental needs. There should be a greater focus on preventive measures than treatment for mental health issues.

Students should not have to pay for their own health services because municipal health services do not meet their needs. A better economic and operational division of labor between health regions and student welfare organizations must be developed. To improve student health, the Welfare Assembly believes that a report on the mental and somatic health situation of students must be delivered. The report should be followed by a parliamentary report that identifies necessary measures at the state and municipal levels (hereafter referred to as the 'student health report').

Physical activity

Exercise, organized sports, and physical activity are crucial for brain function and stress management. Additionally, they contribute positively to a conducive study environment, enhancing students' productivity and overall well-being. Increased physical activity in the population yields significant welfare benefits. All students should have easy access to regular physical activity alongside their studies.
