What is The Welfare Council, Velferdstinget? The Welfare Council, abbreviated VT, is a student council founded in 1996 by the student parliaments at the different educational facilities which students are served by SiT. Our mandate is to communicate the student wishes and demands towards SiT and the services they supply. VT is also the electorate for the students in the board of SiT. Our work towards SiT is controlled and regulated through the co-operation agreement, Samarbeidsavtalen, which VT and SiT has agreed upon. Structure VT consists of 17 students elected for a term of one calendar year, 11 of which are from NTNU, 4 from HiST and one representative from DMMH and TSJF. VT then elects a president and vice-president, both of which are students. They do not have a vote in the VT, and are compensated full time for the durations of their period, which is one year. The president and vice-president, together with three elected members of VT, constitute the Executive committee, Arbeidsutvalget, which handles all issues on the day-to-day basis. This years Executive comittee President: Mari Helenedatter Aarbakke Vice-President: Lars-Erik Alstad Aas Executive for Housing and Sports: Ola Magnussen Rydje Executive for PR and Recruitment: Anine Andresen Executive for Welfare: Ragne Katrine Ågnes Hansmoen Meetings Our meetings, which are usually once a month during the academical year, are open, and all students have the right to engage in the discussions and make their viewpoints known. We will translate any case-file deemed especially important for international students, as well as translate cases by special request, time permitting of course. The office VT has an office at "Stripa" at Gløshaugen campus. Stripa is located in the central building of Gløshaugen, with the two tall buildings. Usually you’ll find the full time officials here during normal business hours: 9 a.m. till 3 p.m.

As mentioned we're unfortunately unable to supply those students who do not speak Norwegian with a complete English version of our page, but below you will find a brief summary of what we do and a general description of the responsibilities we have towards you as a student. As always, do not be afraid to contact us if you would like more information, or have any questions. ResponsibilitiesOur main responsibility is as mentioned the contact with SiT. We make sure that SiT is aware of what the students of Trondheim want, needs and wish fore in form of welfare services. We do this through both formal and informal contact, and by electing student representatives to different committees and boards. We also give input on the more business-like services SiT provides. As well as our work towards SiT we engage in other issues concerning student welfare in Trondheim. We’re represented in the municipal student board, “Trondheim Studentråd”, as well as keep contact with the public transport authorities. Among the positions where we elect or nominate candidates are the board of SiT Service, whish runs the cafés and bookstores on campus. The board of the sporting facilities and the two think-tanks for Welfare and Housing, Velferdsrådet and Boligrådet. The semester fee One of our more important tasks is to decide on the size of the semester fee . It is VT which regulates both the sum, and the use of this money here in Trondheim. We do this through handling the proposed budgets of the division of SiT which provide these services, the aptly named SiT Welfare, “SiT Velferd”. Even though the board of SiT has the final veto, and formally is the one who decide on the budget, they have agreed, through the co-op agreement, to follow VTs decisions as long as the budget is in balance. VT is also responsible for deciding in which priority students are to be ranked when they apply for different services, be it day care centers, health care beyond the normal welfare system, housing and so on.
